I keep getting messages that multiple apps other than the one I am using are not working
and do I want to shut it down. Tablet has also started to switch apps on it's own .

Difficult to say but it may have something to do with the permission to run in the background. Some app is misbehaving. What is the app you are using that gives this problem ?
