Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 — Cannot synchronise calendar and contacts

I bought my Note 8 when released in September last year. While I can pick up emails, I have never been able to sync contacts and calendar. I have followed instructions in manual and also Googled numerous sites for a solution. Any suggestions?
