Apple iPhone 14 is expected to be unveiled in September 2022. On this page, we will update information about specs, design, features, cameras and pricing from rumors.
The Apple iPhone 14 will probably follow the current stable trajectory of the Cupertino company, with a release somewhere around September 2022. The device will succeed the Apple iPhone 13 series that was launched in September 2021. We do not have any concrete information surrounding the release of the device, but Apple has been pretty consistent in that regard.
Although it is too early to tell if any of the rumors are true, a leak suggested that iPhone 14 will come with a titanium frame. Other design elements were also mentioned in the leak, like the absence of a notch from the front screen and the possibility of an under-screen FaceID camera, but the option of a punch-hole is still considered.
The design will still be dominated by glass. The front and the back are rumored to be covered with glass and the side buttons are expected to return to a rounded shape, something we haven't seen since the iPhone 4. Other minor design details mention the speakers grills that will have an elongated mesh instead of the traditional hole cutout.
Another major change that is rumored to find itself in the iPhone 14, is the removal of the camera bump from the back. The powerful cameras will be housed directly inside the frame, something that will offer Apple a wobble-less advantage over the competition! A flat back in a smartphone is something we don't see often, but only time will tell if we will get to see a paradigm shift from Apple.
We currently have no information on the pricing. But we can get an idea by looking at the prices of the iPhone 13 line-up. The base iPhone 13 model with 128 GB starts at $799 which remained the same from the iPhone 12 64 GB. It is reasonable to think that the iPhone 14 will maintain a similar price range.
What should be kept in mind is that the ongoing component shortages are pushing other manufacturers to bump up their prices, and it can be expected from Apple to do the same. So we may see the next iPhone with an adjusted price to cover the extra expenses.
The only leaks available at the moment concerning the cameras, have to do with their placement inside the main body of the chassis and not a camera bump. Other leaks suggest that Apple is considering a punch-hole, notch-less design.
Regarding the quality of the pictures, we are expecting Apple to make considerable leaps in this regard, as it has done so for the iPhone 13, with an emphasis in providing new A.I. features.
In terms of camera specs we expect the iPhone 14 to inherit iPhone 13's OIS Dual 12MP cameras, with improvements made to the sensor. On the front side we expect the selfie camera to feature an under the screen FaceID sensor and a punch-hole for the selfie camera but as mentioned in the rumors, this decision is not final.
As of now the only things that we know is that it will feature the new Wi-Fi 6E spec as it was mentioned by the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo later in fall. The device will probably feature the next Apple SoC that will succeed the Bionic A15.
The A16 Bionic will be designed by Apple and is expected to be based on TSMC's 4 nm process. Looking at how the A15 scaled over the A14 we can expect a decent uplift in performance of about 15% across all metrics, while it would make sense for Apple to invest further in the Neural Engine capabilities of the upcoming processors with even larger gains.
With Apple maintaining the competitive lead in processing and photography, the iPhone 14 is expected to be a powerhouse addition to Apple's line-up. Rumors are already suggesting major overhauls on the design, and the recent change in the repair philosophy of the company may affect this even further, since Apple may move to a more repair-friendly, modular device.
But for all the changes that Apple may bring to the next iPhone, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 are expected to stand the test of time, as other Apple devices have done until now. This makes the latest Apple devices an excellent choice until more information on the iPhone 14 is available.
